Recommended Computers
We highly recommend using these computers, customized specifically to run eMotion LV1:
We can also recommend the following qualified systems:
OS X users: For best performance of audio transport from the SoundGrid Core Audio Driver to the SoundGrid network, consult this page for up-to-date information on Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapters for SoundGrid networking on Mac computers.
Recording and playing back over 32 channels using your local Apple ethernet port is not recommended and may cause random audio drops.
Windows Users: For best performance of audio transport from the SoundGrid ASIO Driver to the SoundGrid network, Windows computers featuring USB-C connectivity should use a Gigabit Ethernet adapter with an Asix AX88179A chipset. We've specifically tested the following adapter: Pluggable USB Type-C Gigabit Ethernet Adapter USBC-E1000.
Supported I/Os
Please note: When using the SoundGrid Connect feature, the only local devices supported in eMotion LV1 v11 and up are the built-in output of macOS X Core Audio and built-in Windows drivers (with ASIO4ALL).
Supported SoundGrid Servers
Supported Cables
Cat 5e, Cat 6 and Cat 7 S/FTP cables are supported.
Tested and approved cable length: 100 meters from SoundGrid I/O to switch, 10 meters from SoundGrid Server to switch and up to 4 hops/switches.
Consult this page for further info.
Supported Network Switches
Consult this page for up-to-date information on network switches that can be used in a SoundGrid audio networking and processing system.
Take special note of the specific model and version of the switch – some versions work well, others don’t. To ensure compatibility, we recommend that you obtain the switches through Waves.

Sample Rate Support
SoundGrid ASIO/Core Audio driver and SoundGrid Connect support 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz.
Latency
SoundGrid ASIO/Core Audio driver uses a network buffer when connecting to the SoundGrid network in addition to the ASIO/Core Audio buffer. The network buffer can be set to 104–1024 samples. A round trip through a non-SoundGrid ASIO/Core driver used with SoundGrid Connect (adds processing power to mixes) and SoundGrid processing then back will exhibit additional latency. The total latency for the round trip will commonly be more than 6 ms. See the manual for more information.
Connections
SoundGrid ASIO/Core Audio driver supports up to 128 input and 128 output channels.
All connections and configurations require a SoundGrid host Application.

* The Auto control is functional only on hosts that support the Mackie HUI protocol.
Note to users of Pro Tools 10 HDX
Waves plugins use the DAE format in Pro Tools 10 (supported in V9.6 and older), which does not allow HDX DSP processing. This has no effect on StudioRack Native. However, StudioRack SoundGrid will not appear in your DSP plugin list. To use StudioRack SoundGrid processing with Pro Tools 10 HDX, select “Enable StudioRack SoundGrid for HD Native playback engines” through the Waves Preferences. StudioRack SoundGrid processing will appear in your Native plugin list.
Note to Logic users
You may experience clicks and pops when StudioRack in SoundGrid mode is placed on an aux track. We are currently working on solving this issue.
Notes to Mac users
On some Mac computers, setting your host buffer higher than 256 may cause audio corruption upon playback if SoundGrid is selected as your Core Audio driver.
If you are using StudioRack (SG Mode) in Pro Tools Native and are experiencing audio corruption or sync issues, open the SoundGrid Driver Control Panel (Applications > Waves > SoundGrid), and set the same buffer size as you have set in Pro Tools.
Note to all users
When you save and name a new preset file in StudioRack, make sure that the new file name ends with the .xps extension. If you type in a new name without including the .xps extension, your preset file will not load when you try to reopen it.
